Science vs. God

This is an old post that I never published. A while back Intelligent Design was pitted against Evolution in a very public court battle originating in a school district. Eventually ID was ruled against and out of the curriculum. It serves as an example of the strong bias many unbelievers have against anything that smacks of God. Original post follows:

This CNN article touches on but still falls short of why Intelligent Design (ID) deserves a fair shake in the science curriculum of our schools. It deserves fair treatment by science because it is science! The view that is constantly assumed in the media - that ID as a theory is somehow a non-scientific theory - is a false one. In fact, saying that ID is not scientific is unscientific.

Scienctific Method generally tries to assume nothing - not even the falsehood of a claim. It demands rational proof to call something a "fact," and this is where the communication breaks down. ID supporters aren't advocating that it be taught as a fact, merely a theory. One among others. Most ID supporters don't even mind that the time spent on each would be hugely unequal in favor of evolution. The ID camp merely says give it a fair shake because it has earned treatment in our curriculum by virtue of it's enormous historical influence and, more importantly, the fact that it is still a valid interpretation of existing evidence. Think of it like this - throwing out ID because it hadn't been conclusively proven by verifiable and replicable facts would also rule out Evolution!

Shes a Hat Girl

Julia has really taken a liking to hats. In Target yesterday she passed the hat aisle and went nuts for a hat. Last Sunday after Mama got her all cleaned up, ready for church, in a nice frilly dress and a cute pink bow, Julia made some fashion choices of her own. She abanoned the pink bow and opted for Isaac's red Jelly Belly cap! My vote was to let her wear it. :-)

Papa Hair

This Monday, Isaac went to get a hair cut with Mama and Julia. Cheryl let the stylist know that Isaac normally got a #4 on the sides and scissors on the top. Julia can be a handful on a good day and this was not a good day for her - sick and cranky Julia equals distracting Julia. This might explain both the stylist missing that last part and Cheryl missing the stylist missing that part! The Result: Isaac got a 'buzz cut'! #4 all over!

This was a shock but not a really bad thing. The really cute part was when Isaac saw his new 'do'. You should know that I normally get a #3 on top. Isaac saw the similarity and immediately lite up. He exclaimed, "I got a haircut like papa's!" He is still smiling at the mirror today. And I'm still smiling when I see him (but that doesn't ever change!)

Cock-a-roaches!

I love my wife. I just want that on record in case this photo shows up in court one day.

Actually, I did clear this with Cheryl before posting (sort of). But you just can't pass these up! Cheryl doesn't like cockroaches (I don't either). Last night. She called me (urgently) to come kill 2 roaches that were in the garage. I got them.

That's what I told her. At least I sprayed them both with the stuff made by Raid (for flies and ants). Cheryl made it to the washing machine before hearing one of them rustling in the gear on the floor where he scurried to after I sprayed him. That is when she mounted the machine!

To the rescue! I did what any red-blooded American man would do seeing his wife panicked atop an appliance. I went for my camera-phone! (and then I smashed the roach flat!) I did, however need to ferry my wife, ala 'piggy-back ride' back inside.

BY ORDER OF MY WIFE:
I am obligated to report that in the ruckus of attacking said cockroaches, one did run at me and I did do a bit of a dance ... Ok I hopped around a LOT! ...and almost screamed like a girl!
